The Today's Chinese Version of the Bible is now available in
Braille on CDROM. On March 24th the ROC Bible Society
held a celebration at Shuang Lien Presbyeterian Church in
Taipei to announce the release after six years of work. The
project was financed, in part, by a grant from the church's
Blind Services Fund, which was established in 1996 by elder
Lin Chun-yu. The Bible Society's Board Chairman, Rev.
Weng Shou-gong, gave special thanks to Mr. Lin.
In accepting the thanks, Mr. Lin told how he had read the
braille edition from beginning to end two times and found great
spiritual help there. He hopes that through the high technology
development demonstrated by this production, many visually
impaired people can also come to read the Bible and find
a different kind of light.
Bible Society General Secretary Lai Chun-ming said, "Our
blind friends have had parts of the Bible in braille since this
society published the New Testament in 1980. But braille
Bibles are heavy. A full bible would take up 40 to 50
books. They are not convenient for use either in worship or
in personal study. Publication on CDROM ameliorates
this problem."
Ms. Wu Yueh-fen, a staff member, said, "The set of CD's
is for use with specially equipped computers. That used
to be considered restrictive, but now that computer technology
is so common in Taiwan, visually impaired people have a
powerful tool to enable them to become Bible readers."
