The Rev. Bertrice Wood of Cleveland, a minister in the United Church of Christ, has been named the first director of Churches Uniting in Christ, a covenant community of nine churches that on January 20 of this year pledged to live more closely together in expressing their unity in Christ and to combat racism. The group of churches was formerly known as the Consultation on Church Union, or COCU. 

Wood is a seasoned pastor, church executive and theological educator who has long been active in her denomination, in COCU and the National Council of Churches and several associations of African-American Christians and clergy.

The Women's Ministries Program Area of the National Ministries Division will honor renowned Presbyterian leader and hymn-writer Jane Parker Huber during the upcoming 214th General Assembly in Columbus, OH.

Born to missionary parents in China, Huber has served the PC(USA) with distinction all her life. Women's Ministries is honoring particularly for her recent stint as interim associate director for women's ministries. Her "Ask Jane" column is a popular feature of HORIZONS, the magazine of Presbyterian Women.

Huber will be honored at the annual Women of Faith Awards Breakfast on June 16 in Columbus.

The Rev. Peter D. Crouch, an ordained Presbyterian minister, has been named chief development officer for Church World Service, the relief and development arm of the National Council of Churches. He began his new work April 15.

Crouch - born in Thailand to Presbyterian missionary parents - graduated from the University of California and San Francisco Theological Seminary. Following seminary, he served on the development staff of SFTS; moderated the endowment committee of the Synod of Alaska-Northwest while serving as associate pastor of Newport Presbyterian Church in Bellevue, WA;  served on the staff of Chicago Presbytery; and for the last two years, has served as a development officer for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Foundation.

Two of America's most famous Presbyterian hometown heroes, John and Annie Glenn, will return to their roots May 27 when a $1.1 million restoration of Senator Glenn's boyhood home opens to the public for the first time in New Concord, OH.

The John and Annie Glenn Historic Site is the result of a decade's worth of work by a partnership of civic and educational institutions, including PC(USA)-related Muskingum College, where both Glenns are trustees.

The Rev. Fred Rogers, best known for creating and hosting the long-running PBS television show Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, has been awarded the 2002 Common Wealth Award of Distinguished Service, a prestigious award administered by the Pittsburgh-based PNC Bank.

The Rev. Donnie Rufus Woods was installed May 4 as executive presbyter for Charleston-Atlantic Presbytery. He succeeds the recently retired Rev. Barry Van Deventer, who served for 28 years.

A change of leadership is occurring at The Outreach Foundation, a validated mission support group of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) dedicated to international evangelism.

The Rev. William Bryant, who has served for eight years as executive director, will retire on Dec. 31 of this year. He was formerly pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Nashville, TN.

Bryant will be succeeded by the Rev. Robert (Rob) Weingartner, who will begin his new work on Sept. 3, 2002. Weingartner, a former member of the General Assembly Council and its Worldwide Ministries Division Committee, is currently pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Middletown, OH.

In 2001, The Outreach Foundation raised more than $7 million for evangelistic mission worldwide.

Two staff members of the Synod of the Covenant have announced their retirements.

Doris Campbell, associate for shared ministries - which includes mission activities and communication - will retire June 15 after nearly 15 years on the synod staff.

Ron Yanai, who has served on the synod staff as associate for supportive ministries for almost 7 years, with responsibility for treasury, budgets and church development and redevelopment, will retire May 31.

Campbell and Yanai will be honored May 29 during the next synod assembly, which will be held at the College of Wooster.
