ASHEVILLE, NC - Professors at Warren Wilson College won Pulitzer Prizes in fiction and poetry for 2002. Carl Dennis and Rick Russo, both in the Master of Fine Arts for Writers program, are the fifth and sixth Pulitzer winners in the 26-year-history of the innovative graduate program. Dennis was honored for his eighth collection of poems, Practical Gods, Russo for his novel, Empire Falls. Each gets a certificate and $7,500.

MONTREAT, NC - John S. Lindberg will be the sixth president of Montreat College. Lindberg, recruited from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, MA, where he was executive vice president and chief administrator, takes office on July 1.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The board of trustees of Bloomfield College has announced that John F. Noonan will resign as president when his current term expires in June 2003 and that a search for his successor is under way.

CHARLOTTE, NC - Queens College will become Queens University of Charlotte on June 1. The name change, advocated by longtime President Billy O. Wireman, recognizes the school's classification as a university by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Wireman is retiring on June 30 and will be succeeded by Pamela S. Lewis, dean of the McColl School of Business.

DECATUR, IL - After a successful first year, Millikin University will continue its Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS) program. The course, a requirement for freshmen, teaches students how to prevent alcohol abuse and related problems. Millikin is the first U.S. institution of higher learning to implement such a program on a wide scale.

TULSA, OK - The University of Tulsa is battling cyber-crime by offering five government-endorsed certificates through its Center for Information Security. Cyber Corps, a pilot program sponsored by the U.S. government to attract information-security professionals to federal service, now has 19 students. The center has received more than $9 million in funding in the past three years.
