SAINT LOUIS -- Mayor Mary Lou Makepeace has declared the
week of June
2 - 9 National Benevolent Association Week in Colorado
Springs.

"I'm proud to know Colorado Springs is now the first city
in the country to
benefit from the full range of National Benevolent
Association housing options for
older adults," Mayor Makepeace said. "This marks an
important milestone for
both the association and the city of Colorado Springs."

On June 8, NBA will celebrate this milestone with a
ribbon-cutting ceremony
followed by a reception and tours at the location of its
two newest facilities,
located on American Drive just west of the North Academy
Boulevard and Austin
Bluffs intersection.

NBA Village at the Bluffs, a 51-unit property featuring
one-bedroom
apartments for low-income older adults in the Colorado
Springs area, opened
April 23. It is a HUD-financed property developed in
partnership with First
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Colorado Springs.

NBA Lifestyles of Colorado Springs opened May 8 with 112
one- and two-
bedroom apartments designed for middle-income adults 55 and
older.

NBA Village at Skyline, a retirement-living facility
opened in 1989, rounds out
the NBA presence in Colorado Springs. NBA Village at
Skyline offers a variety of
independent-living, assisted-living and skilled-nursing
options for older adults in a
comfortable retirement setting across the street from Bear
Creek Park.

A St. Louis-based nonprofit organization founded in 1887,
NBA serves more
than 24,000 individuals annually through more than 90
facilities and programs
nationwide. Those served include older adults, at-risk
children and families, and
people with disabilities. For more information about NBA,
