Peace March in the Diocese of Amritsar

[The North India Church Review] The Christian Community once again expressed
its solidarity and ecumenism by joining together in a massive procession in
the city of Amritsar to mark the entry of our Lord Jesus into the Holy City
of Jerusalem. The procession was jointly organised by the Church of North
India, the Salvation Army Church, the Roman Catholic Church and many other
Christian congregations throughout the Districts of Amritsar and Gurdaspur
in Punjab.

The procession was led by: Bishop P K Samantaroy, Bishop of Amritsar; Major
Manga Masir, Division Commander of the Salvation Army Church; and Fr Daniel
Gill of the Roman Catholic Church. About 5,000 people comprising children,
women, young and old men headed towards St Paul's Church, Amritsar, shouting
slogans of peace among people of all faiths and religious affiliations.
Prayers for peace and harmony in the world were held at various places
during the procession.

The processionists were also welcomed at various localities and provided
drinking water on the way. The youth played a very commendable role in
maintaining discipline and decorum of this great religious event with full
commitment and dedication. It was a great experience of the larger Christian
Fellowship and sharing beyond all denominational and cultural barriers and
an occasion for unity, witness and service for the Glory of God.
