American Baptist News Service (6/12/02)--Sen. John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV
of West Virginia was recognized for the generous gifts of the Rockefeller
family to The Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board (MMBB) at a worship
service held April 14, 2002 at the Baptist Temple in Charleston, W.V. Dr.
Sumner M. Grant, MMBB's executive director, presented the senator with a
framed engrossment of the board's resolution of appreciation.

In 1911 John D. Rockefeller Sr. gave the first of several generous financial
gifts which became the foundation of MMBB's endowment. The Rockefeller
gifts permitted the board to use the endowment at its discretion, resulting
in an innovative church retirement plan and numerous programs of financial
support for ministers, missionaries and lay employees of American Baptist
churches.

The resolution read, in part: ". . .the managers of The Ministers and
Missionaries Benefit Board express, on behalf of the many thousands whose
lives have been enriched, endless thanks to Senator John D. Rockefeller, IV,
the namesake of the Board's benefactor."
