American Baptist News Service (6/25/02)--The Board of National Ministries
voted unanimously at its semiannual meeting last week to grant a request
from the Office of the General Secretary for $1.2 million in bridge-funding
to ensure continued new church planting efforts under NEW LIFE 2010.

A second part of the board action provides a $75,000 grant from National
Ministries to the Office of the General Secretary to hire a campaign
readiness director for a major capital campaign to fund denominational
ministry priorities, including NEW LIFE 2010.

The General Board of American Churches USA, during its sessions last week,
voted to authorize a feasibility study for a denomination-wide capital funds
campaign for new church planting and other priority goals.

Funds from the proposed campaign, however, would not be realized until 2005,
and church planting costs total up to $600,000 annually.

NEW LIFE 2010 is a vision set forth in 1998 for American Baptists to reach
1,000,010 new disciples, plant 1,010 new churches, vitalize a multitude of
caring ministries-and so transform American Baptist congregations by the
year 2010.
