William Fore elected chairman of communications foundation

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS)-Veteran religion communicator the Rev. William F.
Fore has been elected president of the Foundation for United Methodist
Communications.

The purpose of the foundation, launched in 2000, is to fund new media and
communications initiatives for the denomination beyond existing money
allocated to churchwide agencies. Among projects supported by the foundation
are the Igniting Ministry media campaign and the Judith L. Weidman Racial
Ethnic Minority Fellowship, which helps prepare young people of color for
communications careers in United Methodist annual conferences.

Fore, who headed the former Broadcasting and Film Commission of the National
Council of Churches from 1964-1988, succeeds retired education executive the
Rev. Thomas Trotter as the foundation's president.

Also elected as foundation leaders were: Martha "Twick" Morrison, a laywoman
from Vicksburg, Miss., vice president; the Rev. Larry Hollon, general
secretary of United Methodist Communications (UMCom), secretary; and Sherri
Thiel, UMCom deputy general for administration, treasurer.
