INDIANAPOLIS, July 2, 2002 -- An ordained Disciples of
Christ minister and
former missionary with more than a decade of experience in
financial and
investment planning has been called as assistant treasurer
for Church
Extension. William J. Singer, Jr., joins Mary S. Beight,
assistant treasurer,
and Erick D. Reisinger, executive vice president and
treasurer, in the
Church Extension Financial Resources Leadership Team.

"Bill will bring his many gifts and skills to lead Church
Extension in the
areas of securities compliance and generating new investors
and investment vehicles," said James L. Powell, president.
"This will continue our ability to respond to the
ever-increasing demand for loan funds from new and
established congregations."

Singer served most recently as president of Florida
Financial Institute Inc.,
in Naples, Fla. The firm is a family owned and operated
residential and commercial mortgage brokerage business.

An active Disciple at Naples First Christian Church, Singer
has provided
leadership in congregational and regional settings alike,
currently serving
on the Florida region's executive committee, among other
responsibilities. Singer served as a Disciples missionary
teaching English to Chinese students in Nanjing, China from
1986 to 1989. His work also included organizing an
English-language political study group for expatriates to
foster appreciation for Chinese culture and society.

A 1991 graduate of Yale University Divinity School, where
he earned his M.Div., Singer graduated from Millsaps
College with a religion degree in 1981.

Singer and his spouse, Melissa Singer, and their 7-year-old
son Anthony William (Willie) Singer, plan to move to
Indianapolis in August.

Church Extension, based in Indianapolis, is affiliated with
the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Church
Extension assists local congregations in planning,
financing and maintaining facilities to be used as tools of
ministry for the gospel of Christ.
