Taiwan's Christians hold a marathon of prayer
for the nation's protection and call for Taiwan's
transformation into Asia's evangelistic center.

Ministers and elders from churches nationwide
have joined to promote eight days of unbroken
prayer for Taiwan. This marathon is being held
at 14 locations around the country.

Under the theme of "Crucial people in crucial
times perform crucial work", the organizers
emphasize the need for Taiwan's churches to do
the work of prayer in order to change the spiritual
atmosphere of this land. A guiding Biblical
image they hold in mind is "The Bride of Christ."

    Prominent church leaders from mainline,
evangelical and para-church groups spoke at a
"kick off rally" held at Taipei's Wesley Church.

Taiwanese, Aboriginal. Western and South East
Asian clergy have joined to participate in the
marathon's leadership.
The Rev. Dr. C. M. Kao, former General
Secretary of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan,
led the group in prayer. He called on the Lord
to fill each leader with the love of Christ and
to grant them wisdom so that all they did would
glorify the name of God. He also prayed for all
who will attend the decentralized meetings:
that through their devotion Taiwan might be
transformed to a land of virtue, blessing, and
light. He implored the Almighty to draw the
leaders of Taiwan's government to genuine
Christian faith, so that the love of Christ and
the sweet fragrance of wisdom might flow from
their hearts. He asked God to aid President
Chen Shui-bian to come to Christian faith soon,
that Mr. Chen might experience the transformation
to a new life, and be able to lead Taiwan
according to the truth that comes from God.

The Rev. Chou Sin-cho, pastor of Taipei's
independent Bread of Life Church, calls for a
transformation in Taiwan's spiritual atmosphere.
He believes such a change must begin in the
churches. But if churches are to be revived,
then their leaders must first be changed. Then
leaders can help in the transformation of church
members, who will be able to bravely participate
in social transformation. Rev. Chou sees this
prayer marathon as encouraging sisters and
brothers in Christ to pray for the church in
this crucial time.
