INDIANAPOLIS, IN, July 10, 2002 -- A program to subsidize
the cost of health care for pastors of new congregations
has been launched by the Pension Fund of the Christian
Church (Disciples of Christ). "The cost of health care is
a significant budget element for a new congregation", said
Arthur A. Hanna, president of the Pension Fund. "The
program, which provides subsidies over a three year period
on a declining basis, could provide a new congregation with
a grant of more than $23,000," he added. The program was
approved by the Pension Fund Board at its May meeting.

The health care grant program is available to congregations
of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), in the first
five years of their formation and recognized by the region
in which the congregation is located as well as the New
Church Ministries program of Church Extension. The serving
pastor must be a paid employee for the congregation and be
actively participating in the Pension Plan. Additional
health care participation restrictions apply.

Congregations and their sponsoring organizations may apply
for the health care subsidy program by making application
to the Pension Fund. Further information and program
guidelines can be secured from the Pension Fund or New
Church Ministries.
