ABCUSA: Joseph Hanson, Educational Ministries Leader, Dies

American Baptist News Service (7/15/02)--Word has been received of the death
last week of the Rev. Dr. Joseph J. Hanson, for many years a leader in
church school administration and youth and adult work for American Baptist
Educational Ministries.  He was 95.

Hanson was a staff member of Educational Ministries for more than a quarter
century, initially serving as director of the Department of Adult Work and
Family Life for the Board of Education and Publication from 1945-1962.  He
later was director of the Department of Church School Administration and of
the Department of Special Services. 

At the American Baptist Assembly in Green Lake, Wis., for many years he
directed both the National Young Adult Family Conference and the National
Adult Laboratory School.  He also served at Green Lake as program director
from 1962-1969.

As a specialist in adult and family ministries he served on numerous
committees of the National Council of Churches of Christ and the World
Council of Churches.
	
Prior to his national work he held American Baptist pastorates in Conneaut,
Ohio; Milton, Pa.; and Johnstown, Pa. 

Condolences may be sent to his wife, Tricia, and family at: Palm Shores
Retirement Center, 830 North Shore Dr. NE, Apt. 10H, St. Petersburg, FL
33701-2038.

A memorial service has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, July 19, at The
American Baptist Church of the Beatitudes, 2812 Eighth St. N., St.
Petersburg.
