The Rev. Dr. C. S. Song, president of the World Alliance
of Reformed Churches, was the preacher and celebrant
when physicians from 58 nations gathered in Taipei for the
quadrennial convention of the International Christian Medical
and Dental Association shared the Lord's Supper. Seven
hundred conventioneers gathered under the theme of "The
Transforming Power of Christ in Medicine." They held
discussions and attended lectures on healing of the whole person.

Dr. Song preached on the priority of Spiritual over Physical
medicine in healing of the whole person. He said that people
are people, not machines, and lamented that medical advances
have often resulted in mechanistic approaches to life. He
encouraged the physicians to see their patients as spiritual
beings,
created in the image of God, and to face human life with an
attitude of joy.
He asked doctors if before seeing a patient, they pray? "If
there is not prior prayer," he said, "how can a Christian
physician
treat a patient as a person?"
