ABCUSA: 'African American Pulpit' Wins APEX Award

American Baptist News Service (7/22/02)--The African American Pulpit (TAAP),
published by American Baptist Educational Ministries, has been honored with
the 2002 APEX Award for Publication Excellence.  The quarterly was one of
only 15 publications recognized in the category "Printed Magazines and
Journals."  

The APEX awards program recognizes publications work by professional
communicators in the areas of graphic design, editorial content, and the
ability to achieve overall communications excellence.  Nearly 5,900 entries
were considered.  

Published by Judson Press since 1997,TAAP reaches 6,000 readers every
quarter.  Its unique blend of sermons, articles, interviews, book reviews,
and practical how-to advice connects with an ecumenical and theologically
diverse audience.  Martha Simmons and Frank A. Thomas are co-executive
editors.  TAAP's advisory board of notable African American preachers
includes: Charles E. Booth, Claudette A. Copeland, Linda H. Hollies, Carolyn
Ann Knight, Vashti M. McKenzie, Marvin A. McMickle, Henry H. Mitchell, J.
Alfred Smith Sr., Raquel Annette St. Clair, Gardner C. Taylor, William D.
Watley and Jeremiah A. Wright Jr.
