DANVILLE, KY - President George W. Bush has appointed Charles "Wick" Caldwell, a 1965 graduate of Centre College, as chief financial officer of the Peace Corps. Caldwell joins a long list of people from the Centre community who have served the Corps, which promotes world peace by dispatching volunteers to needy nations.

TULSA, OK - A team of University of Tulsa students and their hybrid-electric vehicle, the "Paradyne," won this year's Tour de Sol, an annual competition for alternative-fueled vehicles, collecting a prize of $2,000. It's the university's third win in the event.

DECATUR, IL - Millikin University opened its new Leighty-Tabor Science Center in April during "Dedication Week," which featured an open house for donors and Millikin science students. The $18 million, 84,000-square-foot facility houses the university's departments of biology, chemistry and physics.

MARSHALL, MO - The July 2 issue of Sports Illustrated includes a two-page photo of Tonya Evinger, a freshman at Missouri Valley College, on her way to a victory in the U.S. Wrestling World Team Trials. Evinger, of Bates City, MO, finished second in her weight class to earn a spot on the U.S. team. Four other Missouri Valley women also qualified.
