ABCUSA: New Missionaries Commissioned (corrected release)

American Baptist News Service (8/20/02)--Ten missionaries were commissioned
for service by American Baptist International Ministries Aug. 9 at the World
Mission Conference in Green Lake, Wis.

Bruce and Htway Aiton are being seconded to the United Mission to Nepal for
assignment with the Himal Hydro Electric Project in Nepal, a major
engineering company that is charged with the building of hydro electric
construction.  Bruce will serve as deputy general manager; Htway, a
microbiologist, also will work with UMN through various health care
projects.

Benjamin Bryant will assist member bodies of the All Africa Baptist
Fellowship (AABF) to envision, develop and carry out ministries of
peacemaking, reconciliation and economic development.  He will be based in
Kumasi, Ghana, the current headquarters of the AABF.

The Rev. Madeline Flores-Lspez will be the coordinator of mission volunteers
and groups throughout the Caribbean.  She will be located in the Dominican
Republic.

Anita and Richard Gutierrez will work with the Baptist Mission of South
Africa in Durban, focusing on training South Africans to provide basic
community health care, including care to persons infected and affected by
HIV/AIDS. 

Debra and James Kelsey will be serving as a pastoral team for new church
development among the Flemish-speaking population of Belgium.  The Kelseys
also will assist the Union of Baptists in Belgium with initiatives in urban
mission and leadership development.

Kit Ripley was commissioned for women's ministries and leadership
development ministries in Thailand.

Also commissioned was Tomoko Armagost, who is engaged in church ministries
in Kobe, Japan, with her husband, John.  He was commissioned earlier.
