Reported by Lin Yi-shin. Translated and rewritten by David

August 18 was "Church and Society Mission Sunday" across the
Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT). The Rev. Lim Chong-cheng,
head of the General Assembly's Church and Society Committee,
called on all PCT members to offer themselves and their resources
to enable the committee to fund several justice, peace and relief
projects. These include post earthquake reconstruction centers
and post flood community care facilities. The goal of this
year's special offering is 8 million Taiwan Yuan (roughly a
quarter of a million $US).
Rev. Lim pointed out that the PCT's social mission concerns
include: 1) support of domestic and overseas justice, peace and
human rights issues; 2) participation in social reform; 3)
support of tribal and racial minority groups; 4) concern for the
future of Taiwan, and 5) advocacy for Taiwan's independent
sovereign status in the world. Projects include: 1) rescue,
relief and reconstruction following natural disasters at home and
abroad, 2) community building, 3) neighborhood mission and 4)
community organizing. In November the committee will join the
Taipei Christian Academy to sponsor the second annual National
Marriage Festival. In December churches nationwide will observe
AIDS Concern Sunday, Disabled Peoples' Sunday and Human Rights
Day.
