ABCUSA: Peters Begins As Mid-American Executive

American Baptist News Service (9/11/02)--The Rev. Dr. Marshall Peters began
Sept. 1 as executive minister of Mid-American Baptist Churches.   

Peters was confirmed in a recent vote by the Region Policy Board.  

He most recently was associate executive minister for American Baptist
Churches of the Central Region.

Peters previously worked in overseas missions with his wife, June.  As
International Ministries missionaries they served for 15 years in Thailand.
Among his responsibilities he was general secretary of the Thailand Baptist
Missionary Fellowship in Chiang Mai, in which position he worked with five
national conventions to which American Baptist Churches USA relates.  He
also was an advisor/consultant to evangelism programs of the Karen Baptist
Convention.

Of his new region responsibilities he said he looked forward to "the
opportunity to work together with churches to find points of commonality and
new ways of doing ministry in the coming years in changing communities."

Mid-American Baptist Churches, one of 34 regions within American Baptist
churches USA, includes approximately 151 churches and 29,000 members in Iowa
and Minnesota.
