NEW YORK - The Venerable Tenzin Palmo, one of the first Westerners to become
a Tibetan Buddhist nun, will speak to a multifaith audience at 6 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 1, at First Presbyterian Church in New York City. Organized by
Auburn Seminary, the event is entitled, "Buddhist Presence in Western
Culture," and  is one of two metropolitan-area appearances by Palmo who is
considered to be one of the most accomplished female Buddhist practitioners
and teachers in the world. Tickets are $15. Dinner is also scheduled with
Palmo after the event; for more information, call the seminary at

PITTSBURGH -"Historical Reflections on Christian Missions: Lessons from
Byzantium and Eastern Europe," is the subject of the annual W. Don McClure
Lectures in World Mission and Evangelism at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary,
Sept. 30-Oct. 1. Andrea Sterk, assistant professor of history at the
University of Florida, is the lecturer. Sterk helped pioneer a national
Christian student movement in the former Yugoslavia and holds the Ph.D. from
Princeton Theological Seminary. Lectures are scheduled at 11:20 a.m. Monday,
Sept. 30, "Monks and Missions in the Christian East;" 7:30 p.m. Monday, "The
Cyrillo-Methodian Tradition: Implications for Christianity and Culture." A
lecture is also set for 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1. The World Mission
Initiative Dinner is at 6 p.m. Monday at a cost of $6. Reservations may be

PRINCETON - Sarah Coakley, a priest in the Church of England's Diocese of
Oxford and the Edward Mallinckrodt Jr. Professor of Divinity at Harvard
University Divinity School, will deliver the annual Stone Lectures at
Princeton Theological Seminary, Sept. 30-Oct. 3. Her topic for the
five-lecture series is "God, Sexuality and the Self: A Theology of the
Trinity." Begun in 1883, the Stone Lectures were established to honor Levi P.
Stone, a former director and trustee of the seminary. For more information,

AUSTIN - Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary will celebrate 100 years of
service to the church with an all-day event Oct. 1. On that day in 1902, the
seminary opened, enrolling six students who were taught by three faculty
members. It has been at its present location, north of the University of
Texas, since 1908. Activities include a recital of special music, a
rededication of the chapel, a dedication of the new Centennial Trustee
Gateway and a gathering of women graduates and faculty.
