GRAMMY AWARD WINNING TIM JANIS' NEW SPECIAL EDITION CD
IS RAISING FUNDS, AWARENESS FOR HIV+ AFRICANS

NEW YORK, NY - 10/21/02 - A special AIDS in Africa Benefit Edition CD by
award-winning US musician Tim Janis will help fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic in
Africa and provide care and compassion for HIV+ Africans.

The special edition CD, based on Janis' new "A Thousand Summers" album, is
available exclusively from Church World Service, and features several bonus
tracks Janis recorded in South Africa this May with the Sinikithemba HIV+
Choir of Durban and the world-famous Imilonji KaNtu Choral Society of
Soweto.

While touring in South Africa with international humanitarian aid agency
Church World Service, the Grammy-award winning Janis performed a "Symphony
of Hope" in Durban and Johannesburg -- helping raise awareness and thousands
of dollars to promote the de-stigmatization of AIDS in the epicenter of the
AIDS pandemic.

Beginning on World AIDS Day, December 1, at The Riverside Church in New York
City, the Sinikithemba HIV+ Choir will join Tim Janis for a series of
concerts to benefit for Church World Service's HIV/AIDS work in Africa. The
concert series will include a Washington, D.C., appearance; a
Boston/Cambridge performance sponsored by Harvard Medical School, and other
concerts in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

The U.S. performances, this spring's South African performances, and Janis'
AIDS in Africa "A Thousand Summers" Benefit CD are part of Church World
Service's multi-year initiative to address problems of health, hunger and
malnutrition, poverty, and self-sufficiency across Africa. Church World
Service is an agency of the 36 Protestant, Orthodox and Anglican member
denominations of the National Council of Churches.

All proceeds from sales of the CDs will directly benefit CWS' AIDS programs
in Africa. CDs can be ordered directly at www.churchworldservice.org, or by
calling toll free (800) 297-1516. Cost for the CDs: $15 each plus $3
shipping/handling.
