United Methodists offer 10 ethnic internships in Washington

WASHINGTON (UMNS) - Ten ethnic young adults will be selected for summer
internships related to the United Methodist Church's primary social advocacy
and action agency in 2003. Opportunities to work in public policy and social
justice organizations will be joined with leadership training experiences
during the eight-week program.

Applications are being accepted from young people between the ages of 18 and
22 representing the five ethnic caucuses of the United Methodist Church:
Asian, Black, Hispanic, Native American and Pacific Islander. 

Each internship includes transportation to and from Washington, housing and
a $1,500 stipend for living expenses. Dates for the program are June 1 to
July 27. The denomination's Board of Church and Society administers the
program.

Applicants must demonstrate an interest in social justice, have a
relationship with the United Methodist Church or a United Methodist campus
ministry, be in good academic standing if enrolled in a college or
university, and be a member of one of the specified ethnic groups.
