ABCUSA: Ruth Espy, Retired Missionary in Hong Kong, Dies

American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 11/25/02)--Ruth Bodemer
Espy, retired American Baptist International Ministries missionary in Hong
Kong, died Nov. 19 in Topeka, Kans.  She was 89. 

The American Baptist Foreign Mission Society appointed Ruth Espy and her
husband, John, for missionary service in Hong Kong in 1963.  Ruth utilized
her training in library science at Chung Chi College and the Chinese
University, and worked as a braillist, translating texts and setting up
Braille telephone directories for blind students. The Royal Society for the
Blind of Hong Kong formally recognized her for her contributions to the
Braille program.  

The Espys retired from missionary service in 1990 and settled in Topeka,
Kans., where they were members of the Westside Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, Ruth Espy is survived by two sons, Lincoln Espy
and John Espy.	Condolences may be sent to the family at 2940 S.W. Gage
Blvd., Apt 123, Topeka, KS 66614.
