ABCUSA: Richard Waddington, Former Missionary in Japan, Dies

American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 11/25/02)--Richard
Waddington, former American Baptist International Ministries missionary in
Japan, died Nov. 16 in Whiting, N.J.  He was 72. 

Waddington married Lois Hampton, an American Baptist missionary who was on
furlough from teaching at the Hinomoto Girls' School in Himeji, Japan, in
1958.  They sailed shortly thereafter for Japan to begin work in pioneer
evangelism.  Through their efforts the Morioka church was established and
developed. The Waddingtons hosted Bible classes, and Richard visited other
churches, preaching and encouraging pastors and congregations. 

The Waddingtons concluded their missionary service in 1969.  Waddington
later served Seaview Baptist Church in Linwood, N.J., as church treasurer,
deacon, trustee, moderator, Sunday school teacher and supply pastor. 

Richard Waddington is survived by his wife and three children, Margaret A.
Waddington, David I. Waddington and Jonathan A. Waddington.  Condolences may
