ABCUSA: Harold Richardson, Former Educational Administrator, Dies

American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 12/18/02)--Word has been
received of the death this week of the Rev. Dr. Harold W. Richardson, former
chief executive for American Baptist Educational Ministries and president of
American Baptist-related Franklin College.  He was 95.
Richardson was executive secretary of American Baptist Educational
Ministries and associate general secretary of American Baptist Churches USA
from 1964-1973.  He served as president of the Association of American
Baptist Educational Institutions and the American Baptist Education
Association, and was a member of the Study Commission on Denominational
Structure (SCODS). 

He also was a charter member of the American Baptist Commission on the
Richardson previously served 15 years (1949-1964) as president of Franklin
College, Franklin, Ind., where he oversaw physical expansion and curriculum

Ecumenically Richardson held numerous responsibilities at the National
Council of Churches of Christ, including service on its General Board from

Ordained in 1933, Richardson served pastorates at American Baptist churches
in Herkimer, N.Y.; Port Huron, Mich.; and Jackson, Mich. between 1934 and

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at First Baptist
Church, 201 E. Jefferson, Franklin, Ind. Memorial contributions may be made
to the office of Institutional Advancement of Franklin College, 501 E.
Monroe St., Franklin, IN 46131-9987.
