WEEK OF GREEK LETTERS AND ARTS TO BE CELEBRATED JAN.  27- FEB. 2

New York, NY -- His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Primate of the Greek
Orthodox Church in America, has declared January 27-February 2, 2003 as a
"WEEK OF CELEBRATIONS HONORING GREEK LETTERS AND ARTS" to be observed by
all parochial day schools and afternoon community schools throughout the
Archdiocese. The Archdiocese Department of Greek Education has scheduled
several events in Metropolitan New York.

THURSDAY, January 30th
9:30 a.m.  Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 319 East 74th St.
(NYC)
His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios will preside at the Divine Liturgy for
students, teachers and principals of the New York area parochial day
schools. At the conclusion of the Liturgy, His Eminence will bestow the
Three Hierarchs Award of Excellence on the students who have achieved a
score of 100 on the Modern Greek Language Comprehensive Examination of
2002.

6:00 p.m. Metropolitan Club, 1 East 60th St. (NYC)
His Eminence will host a Vasilopeta Reception in honor of all principals
and teachers of the parochial and afternoon schools.

7:00-8:30 p.m. Metropolitan Club
Celebration of Greek Letters with and musical program and featuring a
lecture by Holy Cross School of Theology Professor Dr. James Skedros. The
public is invited to attend. There is no admission charge.

SUNDAY, February 2nd
9:30 a.m.  Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity
His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios will preside at the Divine Liturgy and,
immediately following, the Grand Opening and Dedication of the Cathedral
Library, located in the Cathedral Center, 337 East 74th Street. The new,
full service Library has been completed with the generous support of the
Kallenikon Foundation, established by Alexandra Kallen, a generous
benefactor of Greek Orthodox education and culture. A Reception will follow
in the Cathedral Center.

5:30 P.M.  St. Demetrios Cathedral, 30-11  30th Drive, Astoria, NY
The Department of Greek Education in cooperation with the Hellenic Cultural
Center has organized a special tribute to Greek Letters in the Petros
Patrides Cultural Center. Featured will be students of the parochial day
schools presenting a program of poetry, songs and dance and the
Archdiocesan Metropolitan Youth Choir.
