Switzerland: Well-known Adventist Theologian Dies

Switzerland: Well-known Adventist Theologian Dies

Gland (VD), 29.01.2003/APD     Dr. Jean Zurcher, a well-
known Swiss Seventh-day Adventist theologian, scholar, 
teacher, administrator and writer, died January 28 in 
Gland, Switzerland. He was 84 years old. 

As a teacher and administrator, his career has spanned 
three continents. Zurcher's nearly 40 years of church 
work included serving as president of the church's French 
Seminary at Campus Adventiste du Saleve in Collonges-
sous-Saleve, France; teacher and principal in Tananarive, 
Madagascar; secretary of the Adventist church's Euro-
Africa Division headquarters in Berne, Switzerland and 
member of the Ellen G. White Estate board, a research 
institution. 

Being recognized as an international authority in 
education, theology, and philosophy, Dr. Zurcher has 
received many awards and distinctions from the 
University of Geneva, the Dutch, French and Malagasy 
governments, the Adventist General Conference 
Department of Education, and US-based Andrews 
University.

As a result of his many years of experience and learning, 
Dr. Zurcher has published numerous books and articles in 
both French and English on the nature of Jesus, Biblical 
anthropology and prophecy. .  His writings have been 
translated into more than ten languages. (02/2003)
