New website feature makes contacting elected representatives easier

PCUSA Washington Office site boosts grassroots possibilities

by Jerry L. Van Marter

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Washington Office of the Presbyterian Church (USA)
announced that it has added a new Legislative Action Center to its Internet
site to enhance Presbyterians' advocacy efforts and enable them to easily
communicate with their elected representatives by email.

The website is www.pcusa.org/washington.

It now includes an icon (on the right hand side of the screen) labeled
"contact congress." Entering your zip code brings up a screen where you can
view your senators' and representative's picture, phone numbers, e-mail
addresses, staff, committee assignments, voting records, and more. In
addition to elected officials, visitors may also locate local and national
media contacts in all 50 states.

A "hot link" allows you to send email to elected officials directly from the
site.

The "Presby Legislative Action Center" - it's icon is located at the top of
the right hand column - contains a wealth of information, including "action
alerts" on pending legislation related to PC(USA) General Assembly public
policy statements, background information on issues and current legislation,
voting records of members of congress, information about online voter
registration and daily Senate and House schedules.

"The decisions made by our elected officials are incredibly important to our
church," said Elenora Giddings Ivory, director of the PC(USA) Washington
Office. "Keeping our members informed and enabling them to take action is a
very important part of our work. Member involvement in these issues will help
us achieve our goals, and the new addition to our site is going to make this
much easier" she said.
