New radio spots seek to spark talk show conversation on public issues
'Choice Cut' is Presbyterian Media Mission pilot
by Jerry L. Van Marter
PITTSBURGH - The Presbyterian Media Mission here is launching a new radio
pilot designed to stimulate talk radio discussions around the war in Iraq.
"Choice Cut" will be offered to select radio stations around the country in
March. The one-to-two minutes spots, produced by PMM's Dennis Benson and
hosted by Julie Cowie, present a variety of viewpoints to which listeners can
respond.
"Fairness in the context of 'Choice Cut' means a balanced perspective, not
the absence of a viewpoint," said PMM executive director Gregg Hartung.
"Fairness does not mean simply looking for extremes on either end of the
spectrum in order to present a controversy, but being prepared to show the
nuance, to show the complexity, to show the range of viewpoints that may
enlighten, not just entertain."
Hartung said he hopes 'Choice Cut' will heighten the quality of debate on
talk radio by providing "useful thought provoking information in a personal
way that citizens can discuss."
For more information about "Choice Cut," call Presbyterian Media Mission at
412-323-1400, extension 311.
