The Born Anew Fellowship, a Christian group engaged in prison
ministry throughout Taiwan, recently announced the inception of
an award program for reformed criminals.
According to staff member Ms Lin Ying-zhu, the awards are
intended to affirm those who have changed their ways and to
encourage others still jailed or recently released to exert
themselves towards reform. The awardees will be models for
everyone.
Ms Lin and Born Anew Fellowship General Secretary Rev. Hwang
Ming-chin said they hope this program can serve to encourage
participants in the group's "pre-release" programs to plan on
renewed lives upon obtaining their freedom. They hope for
support from the government's judicial and interior ministries.
The awardees will be selected from among those nominated by
organizations. Candidates must be Taiwan citizens. They must
have been out of jail for at least three years, or have been
serving parole for 5. Additional aspects of personal reform,
family reconciliation, social service and integration into
mainstream society will figure in.
Nominations should be mailed or faxed to the Born Anew
Fellowship in Taipei.
The final date for inclusion in this year's list is April 20th.
The group anticipates continuing the program into the foreseeable
future.
