House approves resolution honoring Lutheran schools

WASHINGTON -- By a unanimous vote of 407-0, the U.S. House of
Representatives approved a resolution March 4 that 3supports the goals of
National Lutheran Schools Week2 and 3congratulates Lutheran schools,
students, parents, teachers, administrators and congregations across the
nation for their ongoing contributions to education.2

Rep. Doug Bereuter, R-Neb., a Missouri Synod Lutheran, introduced the
resolution that coincided with the 2003 National Lutheran Schools Week,
March 2-8.

The resolution notes that there are 4,841 Lutheran early-childhood centers,
elementary and secondary schools in the United States with 40,076
teachers. The latest statistics indicate that 2,412 of the centers and
schools are operated by LCMS congregations.

3Lutheran schools produce students strongly dedicated to their faith,
values, and morals by providing an environment that encourages honesty,
trust, respect, and responsibility,2 one 3whereas2 reads. Another points
out that Lutheran Schools Week 3has been established ... for the purpose of
recognizing the vital contributions of the Nation9s Lutheran early
childhood education centers, elementary schools, and secondary schools.2

3This Member is proud of the Lutheran schools in the First Congressional
District of Nebraska and those throughout the nation which deliver high
quality educational opportunities and challenge students to reach their
full academic and spiritual potential,2 Bereuter told his House colleagues
when he introduced the resolution.
