Deanery Attack in Londonderry

[The Church of Ireland Press Office] The Bishop of Derry and Raphoe, the Rt
Revd Ken Good, said that violent incidents such as the recent attack on The
Deanery in Londonderry have no place in a future where neighbour respects
neighbour.

Bishop Good said, "The recent attack on The Deanery in Londonderry, as well
as being a most upsetting episode for the Dean and his family, was a
disconcerting incident that has shocked the whole community.

"Dean Morton has responded to the attack with characteristic dignity and
calm, and in so doing has evoked an even greater degree of admiration and
support from people on both sides of the community and from throughout
Ireland.

"The messages of encouragement that he and his family have received from far
and near have been very heartening indeed, and I know that people's good
wishes, support and prayers have meant much to the Mortons, to the Cathedral
Parish and to the whole Church of Ireland community in this great city.

"At a time when so many people are working hard to build trust and peace in
this divided community, we can only hope that violent incidents such as this
will have no place in a future where neighbour respects neighbour and that
this city becomes an increasingly 'warm place' for all to feel at home."
