Archbishop Donald Mtetemela re-elected Archbishop of Tanzania

[The Anglican Church of Tanzania] Archbishop Donald Mtetemela has been
re-elected to lead the Anglican Church of Tanzania (ACT) as Primate for the
next five years. The re-election was done by the Electoral College for the
election of the Archbishop at its sitting on Tuesday 25 February 2003 at the
Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Dodoma, Central Tanzania. The Rt Revd Dr
Gerard Mpango of the Diocese of Western Tanganyika, (the then Dean of the
Province) chaired the Electoral College.

The Provincial Registrar, Justice Augustino Ramadhani, and the Revd Canon Dr
R Mwita Akiri, the Provincial Secretary, witnessed the election.

The Electoral College for the election of the Archbishop comprises of 57
members: 19 Diocesan Bishops; 19 Clergy; and 19 Lay men and women
representing the Houses of Clergy and Laity (respectively) of the Synod of
each of the 19 Dioceses of the Anglican Church of Tanzania. The College
elects an Archbishop every five years.

Archbishop Donald Mtetemela who is also the Bishop of the Diocese of Ruaha
was first elected to be Primate of Tanzania in 1998. He is married to Gladys
with whom he has seven children.
