African-American ministers demonstrate support
for Disciples Mission Fund
At the annual Black Ministers Retreat an offering of $700 was received
in support of Disciples Mission Fund, the common mission fund of the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Lois Artis, president of the Church Finance Council, emphasized the
importance of participating in the mission of the whole church.
"While
the number of African-American congregations participating in the
common
mission fund declined by 15 in 2002, giving from African-American
congregations increased by $164,000," shared Artis. For the full

New Church Ministry calls new staff
members to team
A tri-lingual Disciples missionary and a Christian educator from the
Disciples largest congregation join the New Church Ministry team of
Church Extension this spring.
Charles Wallace, accepted the call as assistant director for coaching
for the team this week and Nadine Burton, begins April 28 as assistant
director for leadership development with New Church Ministry, a
position
made possible in cooperation with Disciples Home Missions. For the

Crow to be keynote speaker for
Oreon E. Scott Conference in May
The Rev. Paul Crow, distinguished leader, scholar, and statesman in
the
worldwide Ecumenical Movement, will be the keynote speaker for the
Oreon
E. Scott Clergy Conference at Christmount, May 5 - 7, 2003. Crow has
given formative leadership to all expressions of the movement towards
Christian Unity, traveling to over 90 countries and all six
continents.
His theme will be "Christian Unity in a Dramatically Different World,"
emphasizing the biblical call to unity, Disciples heritage, and the
impact of ecumenism on the local congregation.

Thompson named vice president for
Christian vocation of DHM
Disciples Home Missions' President, Arnold C. Nelson, Jr., has named
Danny R. Thompson vice president for Christian Vocation. This change
is
effective immediately.
The work of the office of Christian vocation includes the
identification, recruitment, care and nurture of ordained and licensed
ministers. All DHM business related to Disciples clergy is housed in
this office.
