Roland Sedziol, General Board Member and Lay Leader, Dies

American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 3/19/03)--Roland Sedziol, a
member of the American Baptist Churches USA General Board and Board of
International Ministries since 1999 and a founder of the Used Book
Depository, died March 17 at age 67.	     

On the Board of International Ministries Sedziol was chair of the Mission
Finance Support Group and a member of the Executive Committee and the Urban
Mission Response Group. He also was on the Missionary Support Task Force,
the Go Global Strategic Planning Task Force and the Executive Director
Search Committee.

Sedziol was an active member of Montgomery Community Baptist Church in
Cincinnati, Ohio. Along with his wife, Polly, he founded the Used Book
Depository, a church-related ministry that collects and provides Bibles,
theological books and educational materials for American Baptist partner
seminaries and Bible schools. Since its inception in 1994 this ministry has
become the largest supplier of religious materials for American
Baptist-related schools worldwide.

Sedziol also served as president of Judson Care Center and vice-president
for Judson Village Retirement Community in Cincinnati. 

International Ministries Executive Director John Sundquist said, "Roland was
an incredible man of faith. There was never a task too big for him to
undertake. He loved big challenges and consistently gave freely of his
unique gifts.  Roland made a big difference in the life of International
Ministries.  We have indeed lost a great friend."

A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at Montgomery
Community Baptist Church, 11251 Montgomery Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45249-2310.
Contributions may be made to the Judson Village Used Book Depository, 2373
Harrison Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45211-7999 or to Montgomery Community Baptist
Church Memorial Fund at the church address.  

Condolences may be sent to his wife and family at 2498 Lourdes Lane,
Cincinnati, OH 45238.
