Walsingham World Peace Prayers

[Shrine Media Office] A peace candle has been lit in the Holy House of the
Shrine of our Lady of Walsingham following news of the outbreak of war
against Iraq.

Father Philip North, Administrator of the Shrine, said that special prayers
were said today for all those caught up in this terrible conflict and for
peace throughout the world.

"The candle will burn in the Shrine until there is a peaceful solution to
the current problems in the Gulf, said Fr North this morning. Prayers for
peace will also be offered at Shrine Prayers every evening at 18:00.

Walsingham in Norfolk is known as England's Nazareth and attracts thousands
of pilgrims every year from all over the world.

"The Holy House is somewhere for people to discover the peace of God at this
uncertain time." added Father North.

Prayers for all involved in the current conflict will be said remembering
particularly the Iraqi people and UK families who have relatives serving in
the Armed Forces.
