American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 3/21/03)--American Baptists
are encouraged to support the vast relief and redevelopment work likely to
be necessary in Iraq following the hostilities there through One Great Hour
of Sharing.

Most religious and secular humanitarian organizations are predicting that
the already severe economic and social conditions in Iraq will increase
exponentially during the conflict. Some have placed the anticipated number
of refugees, displaced persons and those in need of food and shelter in the
millions.

American Baptist ecumenical relief and development partners Church World
Service and Baptist World Aid both have issued appeals for support to deal
with the crisis.

American Baptists wishing to support post-war relief work in Iraq should do
so through the usual channels--One Great Hour of Sharing (line 7 of the
Monthly Report of Mission Support), designating contributions
"OGHS--Post-War Iraq Relief." Those wishing to contribute online can do so
by accessing the "American Baptist Missions" or "Give Now" pages of the
ABCUSA Web site--www.abc-usa.org.
