MODERATOR TEAM GATHERS TO ADVISE JACKSON

Following the announcement that the Rev. Richard L. Hamm would conclude
his term as General Minister and President two years early, moderator
Alvin O. Jackson called upon four former moderators and the
moderator-nominee to serve as his advisors.  

At their first meeting, D. Duane Cummins, Janet Long, Michael Mooty,
Paul Rivera, and Charisse Gillett provided three recommendations to

MODERATOR JACKSON RECOVERING WELL FROM SURGERY

Alvin O. Jackson, moderator of the Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ), and senior pastor of National City Christian Church underwent
surgery for Cervical Stenosis on Wednesday, March 26.  Surgery went well
and Jackson will be recuperating over the next six weeks.

LEADERSHIP SUMMIT POSTPONED

The Rev. Alvin O. Jackson has postponed "The Summit on the Future of
Our Church" scheduled for April 22 - 24, 2003 at National City Christian
Church. Jackson will be recuperating from surgery associated with
Cervical Stenosis, and is unable to host this event. A new date will be
announced. Those who have already registered can contact National City

STEWARDSHIP CAMP FOR TEENS WILL BE OFFERED THIS SUMMER AT TCU

PENTECOST OFFERING TO START NEW DISCIPLES CHURCHES

With new Disciples congregations emerging twice as fast as projected,
Disciples plan to support the exponential growth through proceeds of a
designated church-wide offering. 

"Right now, Disciples need to train, coach and otherwise support twice
as many new churches and their leaders as we anticipated," said Rick
Morse, Disciples New Church Ministry director. "It's the best problem we
could possibly have."

Pentecost Special Offering will be collected June 1 through June 8 this
year in most Disciples congregations. The offering divides equally
between new-church ministry efforts in the region where it is collected
and Disciples New Church Ministry. NCM coordinates the Disciples'
training and other church-wide strategies for new-church growth. For the

NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR OFFICE OF DISCIPLES WOMEN

A laywoman, former administrator and management executive, has been
called as executive director of the Office of Disciples Women. Adonna
Bowman begins this assignment April 22. She is a life-long Disciples and
a member of Westchester Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Los
