24 schools get Bible-teaching grants

LOUISVILLE - Twenty-four schools and colleges related to the Presbyterian
Church (USA) will receive Bible-study grants from the denomination's Office
of Colleges and Universities in the Higher Education program area.

The National Ministries Division Committee (NMDC) announced the annual grants
April 4. The seven institutions will share $207,400 in Grants for Teaching of
the Bible to support new courses and pay for resources.

A committee composed of a Presbyterian seminary student, the NMDC's chair and
a PC(USA) national staffer selected the 2003-2004 recipients during a meeting
in March.

Grant recipients are:

	
* Agnes Scott College, Decatur, GA; $8,400 for developing and applying
experimental components to Hebrew and New Testament classes.
	
* Arcadia University, Glenside, PA; $10,000 for initiating a new Bible
course.
	
*  Carroll College, Waukesha, WI; $10,000 for increasing Bible literacy.
	
*  Cook College and Theological School, Tempe, AZ; $10,000 for online Bible
courses.
	
*  The University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, Dubuque, IA; $10,000 to
further develop a new core curriculum.
	
*  Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, FL; $10,000 for two course and a travel
seminar for all students.
	
*  Grove City College, Grove City, PA; $5,000 for four-part lecture series.
	
*  Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, NC; $5,000 for increasing number
and scope of campus-based religious activities.
	
*  Knoxville College, Knoxville, TN; $5,000 for new Bible courses.
	
* Macalester College, St. Paul, MN; $10,000 for new Bible courses.
	
*  Mary Holmes College, West Point, MS; $10,000 for expanding current
biblical course.
	
* Menaul School in Albuquerque, NM; $10,000 for leadership development
courses.
	
* Missouri Valley College, Marshall, MO; $10,000 for strengthening teaching
of its Bible course.
	
* Montreat College, Montreat, NC; $4,000 integrated studies courses.
	
* Peace College, Raleigh, NC; $5,000 for support for adjunct faculty.
	
* Presbyterian College, Clinton, SC; $10,000 for developing a student Bible
study.
	
* Presbyterian Pan American School, Kingsville, TX; $10,000 for developing
new curriculum.
	
* Rabun-Gap Nacoochee School, Rabun Gap, GA; $10,000 for adding to existing
funds to bring an intern from Mexico.
	
* St. Andrews Presbyterian College, Laurinburg, NC; $5,000 for consultations.
	
* Sheldon Jackson College, Sitka, AK; $10,000 for instituting a minor in
Christian vocational studies. 
	
* Stillman College, Tuscaloosa, AL; $10,000 for enhancing student
understanding of the Bible.
	
* Warren Wilson College, Asheville, NC; $10,000 for developing the Bible and
social ethics program.
	
* Wasatch Academy, Mt. Pleasant, UT;  $10,000 for changing the current
unbudgeted chaplain position to permanent. 
	
* Westminster College, Fulton, MO; $10,000 for general education curriculum.
