Wolfe to receive constitutional award

New prize named for the late Fred Jenkins will be presented during GA

by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE - The Association of Stated Clerks of the Presbyterian Church
(USA) has awarded the first annual C. Fred Jenkins Constitutional Services
Award to Marianne Wolfe.

The association will present the award each year to a person or group that
has given wise, prudent and vigilant support to the Constitution and polity
of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Wolfe will be honored during the Stated
Clerk's Dinner for higher governing body staff at the 215th General Assembly
in Denver. A permanent award will be placed in the Stated Clerk's library at
the Presbyterian Center in Louisville.

Wolfe, a unanimous choice, was selected for her broad and dedicated service
in support of the Constitution and polity of the church. She has served as a
General Assembly parliamentarian. She wrote the pamphlet, "Parliamentary
Procedures for the Presbyterian Church (USA)," which is distributed to all GA
commissioners and is widely used throughout the denomination.

Wolfe served as stated clerk of Pittsburgh Presbytery for many years, and was
its moderator in 1973. She has served on nine Assembly committees and task
forces. She lectures on polity and is an emeritus member of the Board of
Directors of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

The Rev. C. Fred Jenkins served the church in many capacities during his
ministry, including 11 years as an Associate Stated Clerk of the General
Assembly. Since his unexpected death in 2001, the Association of Stated
Clerks has sought a way to honor his service and uphold the values for which
he stood.
