Episcopal Relief and Development aids displaced in Liberia

Episcopal Relief and Development is providing emergency assistance to the
Diocese of Liberia after escalating violence and civil unrest in the country.
An estimated 250,000 internally displaced people need food and shelter. There
are over 110,000 people in seven camps around Monrovia. Some 35,000 others
have fled the central Liberia town of Gbarnga for the communities of Totota
and Ganta.

"This inhumane human condition has necessitated our need to request
additional assistance to help meet this tremendous human catastrophe and
suffering," said the Rt Revd Edward W Neufville II, Anglican Bishop of
Liberia.

Episcopal Relief and Development will provide shelter, food, clothing, and
transportation to the displaced population including children, widows,
elderly, and the disabled. ERD has given US$20,000 in emergency support to
the Diocese of Liberia which will include materials for making 200 huts, 500
bags of rice, and 15 bags of clothing and blankets.
