	Minnesota North District
	elects Fondow president

Rev. Donald Fondow of Park Rapids, Minn., is the new president
of the LCMS Minnesota North District.

Delegates to the April 24-26 district convention at Grand Forks,
N.D., elected Fondow, 49, on the first ballot to succeed Dr. David Bode,
who is retiring after two three-year terms as president.

Fondow had been a mission and ministry facilitator for the
Minnesota North District since 2000.

Delegates also elected a new third vice president, Rev. Paul
Cloeter of Sauk Rapids, Minn. They re-elected Rev. Dan Abrahams, Detroit
Lakes, Minn., first vice president; Rev. Kirk Lee, Parkers Prairie,
Minn., second vice president; Rev. Walter Brill, Virginia, Minn.,
secretary; and Orrin Rinke, Nisswa, Minn., treasurer.

Convention delegates passed several resolutions that have to do
with the current controversy in the Synod.

One of those asks the 2004 Synod convention to give the Board
of Directors of Synod ecclesiastical authority to deal with the
Synodical President concerning any charges of impropriety during the
interim between Synodical conventions.

That resolution also asks the Synod convention to direct the
LCMS Commission on Structure to propose at least two means or models
for placing a Synodical President on restricted status, suspension, or
deposition from office for cause as is the case already provided for ...
District Presidents.

	Related resolutions that were adopted:

-- ask the Synod convention to clarify Synods conditions for
membership, as stated in Article VI of the LCMS Constitution;

-- request a review of a recent ruling by the LCMS Commission on
Constitutional Matters (CCM) regarding the Synod presidents right to
call up for review a decision of an investigating officer; and

-- ask that the Synod convention elect members to the CCM.

The convention reaffirmed that the district forward to the Synod
a minimum of 42 percent of funds it receives from congregations.

Delegates also passed a resolution requesting the LCMS
Commission on Worship to retain the entire wording of the Nicene Creed
in the new hymnal it is preparing for the Synod.

The convention marked the districts 40th anniversary.
