	Klettke re-elected in New Jersey

Rev. William R. Klettke was re-elected to his second term as
president of the New Jersey District at the district's May 15-17
convention in Bridgeport, N.J. Klettke, 56, has served as president
since 2000.

Also elected as officers were Rev. Paul R. Huneke of Tinton
Falls, N.J., first vice president; Rev. Terry R. Herzberg, Fair Lawn,
N.J., second vice president; and Rev. Paul E. Kritsch, Scotch Plains,
N.J., third vice president.

The theme of the convention was "With hearts enlightened," from
Eph. 1:18.

	Delegates adopted resolutions to:

	* support the LCMS World Mission effort to reach 100 million
people with the Gospel by 2017.

	* support the "New Jersey District Outreach Campaign."

	* request the Synod to develop contemporary worship materials.

Synod President Gerald Kieschnick introduced his "One Mission,
One Message, One People" initiative, and encouraged convention attendees
to "set some hearts on fire" by sharing their faith with urgency.

In his convention essay, Dr. Robert Scudieri, director of North
America Services with LCMS World Mission, emphasized that the primary
mission of the church is to make disciples of all nations. Sharing the
Gospel is not a choice, he said, and congregations must take
responsibility for starting new missions. Only 57 percent of New
Jersey's population considers themselves "churched," he said.

The convention also honored some 20 pastors who have spent
between 40 and 65 years in the ministry, including Dr. Donald Sandmann,
the district's president emeritus.
