Charles Easley is Assembly vice moderator

Atlanta elder is a former president of Presbyterian Men

DENVER, May 26  Charles Easley, an elder from Greater Atlanta Presbytery has
been appointed vice moderator of the 215th General Assembly.

	The moderator, the Rev. Susan R. Andrews, disclosed her choice during
Monday mornings annual General Assembly Breakfast. Easley will be installed
Wednesday afternoon when the Assembly reconvenes in plenary.

	Easley, an African-American retired college administrator, now serves
as vice-president of Sheltering Arms Day Care System in Atlanta, a network of
20 day care centers. Hes a member of the General Assembly Council, and also
has served as national president of Presbyterian Men.

	I come with no agenda, no stump, other than I love this church, he
said.

	Easley, a native of Dalton, GA, said he grew up Bapterian. There
were two small churches in his community, he said. The Baptist church held
services on the first and third Sundays of each month, the Presbyterian
church on the second and fourth. We went to all of them, he said.

	During a press conference after the breakfast meeting, Easley
characterized himself as an eternal optimist, and said a great strength of
the PC(USA) is that things bubble up from the grass roots.

	He said he appreciates the moderators common touch as a parish
pastor, and agreed with much of what she said during the election process
Saturday night.
