Public servants honored as Women of Faith
by Jane Hines
DENVER, May 25 The Annual Women of Faith Breakfast featured inspirational
talks by three women who received awards for their work in Gods Realm:
Government or Public Service.
Mildred Emory Persinger has served for 30 years as the World YWCAs
main representative at the United Nations, coordinating work on human rights,
womens advancement, sustainable development, peace and disarmament.
Patricia M. Roach serves as executive assistant to the president of
the Borough of the Bronx, having previously been the first woman on the
Dayton, OH, city commission and having worked in the PC(USA) office of urban
ministries in New York City, and as director of the Evangelism and Church
Development Ministry Unit in Louisville.
Eva M. Clayton served five terms in the United States Congress,
beginning in 1992. She now works for the Food Agriculture Organization (FAO)
of the United Nations as assistant director general/special adviser to the
director general for follow-up to the World Food Summit.
The breakfast began with special greetings from the Rev. Susan R.
Andrews, the General Assembly moderator, who told a large audience that she
had always attended the Women of Faith Breakfast at past Assemblies, and has
fond memories of attending many meetings of Presbyterian Women with her
mother.
