Committee approves peace measures

by Midge Mack

DENVER, May 26 The General Assembly Peacemaking Committee has voted to
recommend approval of Overture 3-04, from Mission Presbytery in Texas, on
U.S. fulfillment of nuclear non-proliferation commitments.

The committee amended another overture on the same topic, 3-03, from
New Covenant Presbytery in Texas, by deleting two recommendations and
inserting them into 3-04. It also substituted the words all nations for the
words the United States and Russia. The amendment was approved by a vote of
68-2-1.

The committee also approved a document titled A Joint Statement on
Peace and Reunification of Korea, presented by the Advisory Committee on
Social Witness Policy, by a vote of 61-9, and approved, with comment, A Call
to Listen to Our Partners in the Midst of Crisis Situations. That vote was
72-0.
