Old moderators not discarded
by Marj Carpenter
DENVER, May 28 - At every General Assembly, old moderators get a chance to
talk to one another and share stories about what they're doing now.
Typically, these conversations take place during the Presbyterian
Foundation's annual Moderators' Dinner. This year the ex-moderators were also
invited to a luncheon sponsored by the Mission Initiative campaign -
officially known as "Joining Hearts & Hands: A Campaign to Renew the Church
for Mission" - to share ideas about raising funds for world mission and
new-church development.
Every year the one-time moderators rattle across the stage like a
slow freight train to remind commissioners that they're still around.
The group at this year's 215th Assembly: Bill Lytle, Charles Hammond,
Isabel Rodgers, Ken Hall, David Dobler, Robert Bohl, Marj Carpenter, John
Buchanan, Pat Brown, Freda Gardner, Jack Rodgers and Fahed Abu-Akel.
Melva Costen, the wife of the late Jim Costen, is attending as a
special guest.
