An international youth convention and an "I Love Taiwan"
summer mission camp have been cancelled due to the influence of
the SARS contagion that has struck Taiwan. Preparations for
these activities had been going on for two years.
The Rev. Mr. Lim Hong-tiong, Youth Secretary at the General
Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan, said that this
setback did not bring all activity to a full stop. The work that
has gone into preparing for the convention will be redirected
into smaller, localized and topical seminars for young people.
An increase in discussion in the Youth section of the General
Assembly's web site at the end of May has yielded suggestions for
the formation of a "Web Fellowship" group to partly replace the
lost opportunity for face to face contact.
With the convention and camp cancelled, Rev. Lim will apply
his efforts to the establishment of a Youth Work Center with
special task groups to focus on Middle School Age, Young Adult,
Ecumenical and Internet ministries.
