Transformation

Earlier this year Taosheng Theological College in Taipei, an
independent school that prepared evangelists for work in China,
suffered a falling out between its administration and board.
College president Chen Lei-hsing announced his resignation and
intention to found a new college focused on China mission. The
board appointed Rev. Hong Jenn-hui, a retired Presbyterian
minister who was serving at the Galilee Mission College in
Tainan, to take over the school.
That things might be done "decently and in order", a group of
church leaders met recently at the mission center of the
Presbyterian Church in Taiwan to sign a transition plan.
Taosheng's mission will now be to focus on Taiwanese indigenous
mission and theology.
A four part agreement was arrived at. It includes that the
current semester will be continued to its pre-set conclusion,
with all current administration and staff in place until July
1st.
The current president and staff will resign together on July
1st.
Current students will be allowed to decide for themselves
whether to continue in the transformed school, or transfer
without penalty to the new China Mission college.
All movable property in the school's inventory acquired before
the end of 1999 will be disposed of as arranged by the former
president, Chen Le-hsing. All movable property acquired since
the beginning of the year 2000 is at the disposal of the school's
board of directors. If there is a situation where both "schools"
are in need of the same item, it can be left open for use of
both, but preference will be given to the students and staff of
Taosheng.
