Peacemaking Program mourning dove
by Midge Mack
DENVER, May 28 - Every year, the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program awards a
stained-glass dove to a presbytery in which at least half of all church
sessions have signed the Commitment to Peacemaking.
This year the dove was to go to Central Florida Presbytery, the 72nd
presbytery so honored.
But there was a problem: The dove never arrived, although it had been
ordered well ahead of time. Postal Service tracers said it had vanished
without a trace.
Sunday evening, when it was time to make the presentation, a white
stole was presented as a substitute to John Dallas, an observer at the
Assembly and the only representative of Central Florida able to make the
meeting. (The presbytery's commissioners were all attending committee
meetings.)
The dove has been re-ordered and it will come to roost during a
future meeting of Central Florida Presbytery.
