139 chosen for PC(USA) service

by Jerry L. Van Marter

DENVER, May 29 - The 215th General Assembly on Thursday selected 139 people
for service on Assembly-level entities.

One of the appointees was a challenges from the floor. In the closest
vote possible, the Assembly elected challenger Fred Denson, an attorney and
elder of Genesee Valley Presbytery, to the General Assembly Permanent
Judicial Commission (PJC). Denson defeated the Assembly Nominating
Committee's choice, James Conklin Moore, also of Genesee Valley Presbytery,
by a vote of 261-259.

Two other conservative challengers to the committee's slate for the
church's highest court were defeated by wide margins.

All the other committee nominees were elected without challenge.

Denson has been active at all levels of the Presbyterian Church (USA)
for many years. He has served two terms on the General Assembly Council and
was its chair for a year. He also has served on the PJC of the Synod of the
Northeast.
